It is a challenge to be able to make a design for Bo’ness’ Waterfront. Especially when it concerns a location such as Bo’ness. Nowadays in the twenty-first century there are less and less possibilities within Europe to build against the centre of a historical city. The presence of the picturesque, historical city centre, the view over the Firth of Forth, the harbour and the railway museum, against the backdrop of the undulating Scottish landscape make the site a dream location. After having won the competition, we have taken the plan one step further and it was with pleasure that we developed the enclosed Masterplan. A Harbour Area has been designed that will be full of character and in summertime very lively. Dock Street will become the new, direct entrance from the centre to the harbour. Dock Street will have an intimate character that will be in harmony with that of the city centre. The connection with the centre is in a straight line so that walking distances to the centre are short. Dock Street crosses the railway tracks and crosses the new lock by means of a striking drawbridge. Along Dock Street are restaurants, the harbour office, shops and other services facing the harbour. These services are mostly contained within the new Warehouse between the Outer Harbour and the Dock. The lighthouse with seafood restaurant is situated at the end of Dock Street. This lighthouse forms the main focal point of the harbour, both from the city centre as well as from the Firth of Forth.
